On 31 December 2020, EU Trade Marks and Registered Community Designs ceased having effect in the UK and on that date the UKIPO automatically created cloned registrations ("comparable UK trade marks" and "re-registered designs") for each registered EU trade mark and design.
The cloned registrations can keep the original address for service in the EU for no more than three years, but it is advisable that their owners update the representative's address of their UK registrations by entrusting them to a UK representative in advance of the three-year deadline, as many comparable trade mark and re-registered design owners have already done.
To deal more efficiently with the high volume of requests to change address for service, due to the creation of a large number of cloned UK registrations, the UKIPO has created a temporary service for bulk change of representative's address, which has now been extended until 31 December 2021.
The bulk change address is particularly convenient, as it allows us to record our firm as representatives for several registrations at once, and particularly for trade mark and design owners because we can offer this service at the current heavily discounted rates.
If your comparable UK trade marks or UK re-registered designs do not yet have a UK address for service, we will be glad to record our firm as representatives to assist you with all correspondence related to your UK registrations.
If you would like to know more about this service, please do not hesitate to contact one of our trade mark and design specialists, who will be glad to assist you.
